The Wellington B. Gray Gallery building opened in 1977 and underwent major renovation in 1999. Its collection includes 500 works of African art from Central and Western ethnic groups, and twelve Oceanic objects. Gifted by anonymous donors, the African art collection is a significant component of the gallery. Normally fifty or more works are on display at any given time. The storage collection is available for research by scholars.
