Inaugurated in 1889, the Ethnographic Museum at the University of Zürich is a center for the research and presentation of non-European art and culture. Located in the city's old botanical gardens, the museum maintains a collection of thousands of international objects, a photograph and film archive, and a library. The object collection is extensive, featuring items from West and Central Africa, Ethiopia, the Himalayas, India, Southeast Asia and Indonesia, Oceania, Australia, South America, Mesoamerica, Central North America, and the Arctic. The museum's comparative textile collection is particularly notable.
