The Royal Armouries is home to the United Kingdom’s national collection of arms and armor, which was formerly housed in the Tower of London. The collection's dedicated museum building, which it occupied in 1996, displays over 8,500 objects throughout five galleries. The museum's holdings contain European weapons and armor on scales large and small, as well as fine collections of the implements of hunting and war from the Near East, the Islamic world, and all regions of Asia. The collection of South and Southeast Asian items is full of rare examples, and includes works from Southern India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Burma, Indochina, Nepal, and Tibet.
