This collector’s museum has been located in Amsterdam since 1995. It was created in 1969 around the private collection of Don Duco, currently the museum’s curator.
There are some 20,000 pipes and other examples of smoking paraphernalia in the museum’s collection. Some 1,500 of these are of non-European origin. Most of the pieces come from old collections and were acquired at auction. The museum’s collection of Central American pipes is the most important of its kind outside Mexico. Africa is also well represented with nearly 200 pieces, many of which are from Cameroon.
