Established in the mid-nineteenth century, the Landesmuseum Hannover holds collections in four major areas: European art from the Renaissance to the twentieth century, German archaeology, biology, and non-European ethnographic art. The museum's ethnographic collection is one of the oldest in Germany and comprises artistic and utilitarian objects from Asia, Oceania, Africa, and the Americas.
