Since the 1960s, thanks to the creation of this museum, the little town of Asten has become the leading repository for bells and carillons of all types. While the museum’s initial goal had been to present only Dutch objects, curators gradually enlarged the scope of the collection through the acquisition of objects from all five continents.
A collection of African pieces (including Nigerian bronze bells and a Dan singer’s mask adorned with bells, Pre-Columbian terracottas, and Nepalese ritual objects are shown in the galleries devoted to ethnography and magic.
