Opened and dedicated in 1993, the Museum at the Warm Springs Reservation houses the state’s single largest collection of Indian artifacts under one roof. The changing exhibition gallery is a flexible venue for the ongoing exploration of every aspect of the Native American experience.
The museum’s permanent collection holds an array of over 4,200 objects reflecting centuries of tribal heirlooms that have been passed from generation to generation. Each year the museum’s collection grows by accepting artifacts during its annual acquisitions process from enrolled tribal members of Warm Springs. Throughout the year objects are also donated to the museum by outside donors and individuals.
The ethnographical collection contains a wide variety of artifacts. The coiled cedar root baskets and cornhusk bags included are significant evidence of the cultural past and present. There are up to 200 artifacts on display in the permanent exhibit. An ongoing series of changing exhibits also utilizes the permanent collection.
