The MAS unites different collections in an innovative story about the world in the city of Antwerp and the city of Antwerp in the world. This is communicated through four themes about people and their connections to each other and to the world.
The world in Antwerp, Antwerp in the world
In the MAS, you will discover how the port city of Antwerp and the rest of the world have been bound together for hundreds of years. People, goods and cultures have been sailing into Antwerp via the Scheldt for centuries, providing exchanges, diversity and colour. The MAS illustrates this diversity. You will find traces of it throughout the world. The MAS shows how connections to the rest of the world have always been distinctive and have enriched the city and its port. And you will learn about the role Antwerp has played elsewhere.
A collection of collections
The MAS is the new home of a number of important Antwerp museums, the buildings of which had become obsolete:
* the Ethnographic Museum
* the National Shipping Museum
* the Folklore Museum
These collections will be given a new lease on life in a very special location.
