The Museu Barbier-Mueller d'Art Precolombí was opened in 1997, situated in the medieval Palau Nadal, opposite the Picasso Museum of Barcelona. Conceived as a sister institution to Switzerland's Musée Barbier-Mueller de Genève, one the world's preeminent museums of tribal art, the Museu contains one of the most prestigious collections of pre-Columbian art in the world, on both national and international levels, which was transferred by the Musée Barbier-Mueller de Genève to the City of Barcelona. The collection encompasses most of the styles of art that existed in the pre-Hispanic cultures of Central and South America, and the objects on display include sculptures, ceramics, textiles, ritual items, and more.
