This historic château was founded in 1578 by Henri de Guise and Catherine de Clèves, and was finished by La Grande Mademoiselle (Anne Marie Louise, Duchesse de Montpensier d’Orléans) in 1665. In the nineteenth century, it became the summer residence of King Louis-Philippe, who twice received England’s Queen Victoria on its grounds. Also formerly the residence of the princes of Orleans, the chateau is now the property of the town of Eu and houses both the museum and the city hall. Notable in the collection are the objects collected by the Orléans family during their travels in Amazonia.
