There is an important group of non-European ethnographic objects among the regional collections housed in the medieval Chateau d'Annecy. The collection here is made up of donations from the late nineteenth century onward. The African and Oceanic objects in the group are mostly of recent manufacture, but the American Indian objects given by the U.S. National Museum in 1887 include a fine pair of Iroquois moccasins. The museum's interesting pre-Columbian collection has been at the Musée d'Auch since 1954, and was thoroughly inventoried in 1999 at the Musée d'Annecy's request. The ethnographic collections are available to researchers and students.
