The museum bears the name of an important Nantes collector, who donated a variety of works collected in the nineteenth century. It houses a significant collection of 658 New World objects, three quarters of which are Veracruz, Huaxtec, Mexican, and Inca archaeological pieces, as well as terracotta vessels and figures from the Amazon Basin collected by Canon Cullere. A Polynesian collection including ornaments, weapons, and a variety of utilitarian objects is also of interest.
