Housed in a new 20,000-square-meter space and opened in 2007, the Musée des Confluences was brought about to replace the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle de Lyon. The museum currently holds some 15,000 ethnographic pieces, representing the holdings of the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, begun in 1772, those of the Ordre de la Propagation de la Foi (Order of the Propagation of the Faith), and those of the Musée Colonial. Africa is represented by Ethiopian headrests; Sudanese Gato, Muro, and Bongo funerary statues; a collection of shields; and Madagascar material acquired through the Renel donation. About 400 New Caledonia pieces collected in the nineteenth century form the core of the Oceanic collection. The American collection includes Pre-Columbian objects and Amazonian pieces acquired in 2000. An engraved Dayak skull from Borneo and a group of Eskimo and Siberian objects are also highlights.

African art Exhibition
The "Musée des Confluences" in Lyon received in 2000 an important donation of African Objects from a couple of Lyon in France, Michel et Denise Meynet, both fascinated by a common subject: finding objects that tell stories and talk about the societies.
The exhibition invites the public to share the passion of these two collectors by showing the diversity and the wealth of a collection up for 10 years with a network of dealers.
In case you are a museum or an institution , note that you could host the exhibition at your place for free. For more information, you can download the presentation (in French).
