This museum houses a collection of about 500 objects from Cambodia, assembled by Adhémard Leclere (1853–1917), an Alençon native and the last French Resident General of Cambodia. There is also an interesting collection of weapons, ornaments, and other objects from New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and the Marquesas Islands, collected by Navy surgeon Emile Deplanche between 1859 and 1867. These are complemented by another gift of New Caledonian material from the Lerat collection.
