Inaugurated in 1988, the Musée de la Civilisation serves as Québec’s state museum. It is located facing the river in the city’s historic district, close to the Place-Royale. Its 50,000 square feet of exhibition space contain three permanent exhibits that serve the institution’s display and educational needs. One of these, Nous, les premiers nations, is a 500-object display that addresses the region’s Native populations, including the Abénaquis, Algonquins, Atikamekw, Cris, Hurons-Wendat, Inuit, Malécites, Micmacs, Montagnais, Mohawks, and Naskapis. The museum also has a substantial collection of twentieth-century Inuit art.
