Since 1833, the Musée de Mulhouse has assembled textiles from all over the world to serve as industrial design models. Part of its ethnographic collection is shown in an introductory vitrine. Especially noteworthy are an ensemble of 35 Oceanic tapa cloths donated to the museum by the Société Industrielle de Mulhouse in 1846, a number of African textiles colored with traditional techniques, and a collection of Indonesian print textiles.
