Between 1909 and 1931, banker, philanthropist and anthropologist Albert Kahn financed a number of photographic documentary projects, both animated and still, which include 72,000 images and 170,000 meters of film footage. His work was guided by the ideal of peace between peoples, and it led him to sponsor numerous expeditions all over the globe. He created a center for the documentation he gathered, and pursued the ambitious project of creating a repository of information called the Archives of the Planet.
