The Lennox Island Mi'kmaq Cultural Centre was officially opened on June 28, 2000, by the Honorable Governor General of Canada Adrien Clarkson. The center was dedicated to the elders of the local Native community as a means of sharing their wisdom and knowledge with the community. The center has interpretive displays of artifacts and historic photographs that explain the history of the Mi'kmaq and Lennox Island from pre-European contact through to the present day. It also provides cultural awareness and positive promotion of Native history and customs, both present and past.
