This museum was opened in 1972 by the late Chief Lelooska as an outgrowth of a series of successful living history programs he began in the 1960s relating to Indian life and culture. The collection features more than 600 objects from the Native peoples of North America, most collected by Lelooska and his family. Many of the artifacts were regalia belonging to family members. Some items were traded for by family artisans and others were gifted by close family friends.
Objects of note in the collection include baskets, parfleches, cornhusk bags, dolls, spoons, cradles, moccasins, tomahawks, pipes, pipe bags, fully beaded dresses, a fifteen-foot birch bark canoe, and an entire replica fur trade store, fully furnished to the period.
Virtually all of the artifacts in the collection are on display.
