Founded in 1968, the Treganza holds a number of Native American ethnological artifacts as well as objects from Oceania and Asia. Most of the material has been field collected by faculty members.
Of note among the museum’s 2,500 objects are incised gourds from northeastern Nigeria, African musical instruments collected by David Gamble, the Meadows mask collection, California and Indonesian baskets, and a collection of Papua New Guinea tourist art carvings. The collection is occassionally drawn upon for special exhibitions. In storage, the objects are accessible by appointment to those doing research on material culture.
