Introduction After thirty years of research, last October Italian anthropologist Daniela Bognolo presented her findings on the kingdom of Gan with a lecture at the University of Geneva. With funding from the fledgling Barbier-Mueller Foundation, her fascinating work has led to the publication of a book and the staging of an accompanying exhibition, which will be showcased until April 2011 in the galleries of Geneva’s famous museum. It features ritual bronzes of extraordinary artistry and inventiveness, displayed alongside masks from the cultural groups that neighbor the Gan in Burkina Faso. |
